Fossil fuels are made from the remains of ancient plants and microorganisms. Experts believe we will exhaust Earth’s finite supply within 100 years.
There is no logic in reducing fossil fuel reliance incrementally (at the cost of achieving other policy objectives) when carbon emissions will be reduced to 0 anyway automatically.
Cheaper, and incidentally cleaner alternative energy sources will surely be developed before then– but even if they aren’t— the finite nature of fossil fuels solves the problem for us!
What is the point of expending time, energy, and political capital on reducing fossil fuel reliance, when there won’t even be fossil fuels in the near future???
The brunt of these useless new regulations will fall on individuals and small businesses. Large corporations will be unaffected, as they will receive special dispensation and/or legislative loopholes at the regulatory level.
Again, fossil fuels will run out on their own– making the use of alternative energy sources automatic! There is no reason to facilitate insider trading.
Here’s the root issue with all this shit:
- (1) The Green New Deal presupposes that recent global temperature and weather patterns (~150 out of 4.5 billion years) are “correct” and should be frozen in place in perpetuity.
This fails to consider the species and civilizations that thrived in the past, and will thrive in the future, under vastly different environmental conditions. Remember, the Earth will be habitable for the next 3 billion years. You can be certain that weather patterns will change drastically during that time, independent of anthropogenic pollution.
- (2) Within ~100 years, 90% of jobs will be fully automated– resulting in mass societal upheaval.
Worker displacement is the existential crisis that threatens civilization, not fucking “extreme weather”, you dumb assholes.
For the record, MFP currently boasts an 89.4% accuracy rate.
