The numbers are in.
The controversy-ridden NFL suffered a 9.7% decline in ratings this past season– which is almost as bad as NASCAR:
% difference from previous season | |
---|---|
Game of Thrones | ~+35% |
NBA | ~+18% |
NFL | -9.7% |
NASCAR | -17% |
The Walking Dead | ~-20% |
You may recall that during the height of the NFL’s national anthem protest controversy last fall, struggling NASCAR desperately tried to curry favor with low-information Americans by siding with Trump’s Nazi regime:
Team owner Richard Petty, who won a record-tying seven championships as a driver, said he would fire any employee that didn’t stand for the anthem…“Anybody that don’t stand up for that ought to be out of the country. Period,” Petty said.
The NBA, meanwhile, seems to thrive on controversy. Compared to this time last season, the Association is up 18%– even while its most recognizable players speak out against the Occupation:
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!
