Jeff Sessions, by all accounts, is shocked that Trump is throwing him under the bus to obstruct Bob Mueller’s Russia probe (if Sessions resign, a recess appointment can fire Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein and the independent counsel):
Sessions…told allies he…thought he was doing…what Trump wanted him to do…”I have called people in the West Wing, and no one understands why Trump is doing this and why he’s still mad”.
You may recall that during the campaign, Trump often read a poem called “The Snake”– obviously, referring to himself…
‘Silly woman,’ said the reptile with a grin. ‘You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.’
Despite repeated readings of “The Snake”, Sessions apparently believed that– since he risked his career and credibility for Trump— that Trump would show a modicum of loyalty in return.
I’m just like…
UPDATE: See, I told you so…
Trump talks privately about the idea of a recess appointment to replace Sessions https://t.co/nT6L6r30Ix

Even if Congress doesn’t formally recess, Trump can name any Senate-confirmed regime official acting AG. Theoretically, Rick Perry could fire Bob Mueller.
