“We [Americans] believed in American democracy.”
Actually, the Founding Fathers were deeply suspicious of democracy– so much so that they constructed an indirect form of gov’t wherein learned elites could circumvent the popular will, when necessary, via:
- Voter restrictions (by race, property ownership)
- Indirect selection of senators (changed in 1913)
- The erectoral college (national popular vote rejected in 1787)
-
“If it was up to Donald Trump, [my son] never would have been in America.”
Actually, the Khans immigrated to the US in 1980— 3 decades before the founding of ISIS– which is what precipitated Trump’s proposal. There is no reason to believe Trump would have opposed Muslim immigration prior to 9/11 and/or the founding ISIS.
-
“[My son] sacrificed his life to save the lives of his fellow soldiers. Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son ‘the best of America'”
Actually, that’s totally subjective.
Many Nazis sacrificed their lives for fellow Nazis. Are they the best of Germany? Many ISIS sacrificed their lives for fellow ISIS. Are they the best of Syria?
-
“[Trump] disrespects…minorities, women.”
Actually, Trump is conventional in that respect. Every single president in US history has disrespected minorities and women…
- Many, like George Washington, literally owned slaves.
- Many, like Lyndon Johnson, were caught on tape being racist.
- Many, like Obama, were caught on video disrespecting women.
Racism and/or disrespect did not impede their ability to execute their duties.
-
“We cannot solve…problems by building walls.”
Actually, humans have been successfully solving their problems w/ walls since the dawn of civilization…
- Castles and fortresses.
- Great Wall of China.
- Israel’s wall.
- Walls around the WH.
- Walls around property.
- Walls around water (dams), of which there are ~57,000 around the world.
- Dental dams.
- Condoms (used millions of times daily, 90+% efficacy rate).
Due to his total lack of accuracy bordering on willful lies, Mr. Khan’s pants are on fire.
