Real talk: Rand Paul says Republicans and Evangelicals have sometimes “appeared too eager for war”   April 6, 2013

In what is sure to infuriate Bill Kristol, Rand Paul told CBN’s David Brody that conservatives have sometimes appeared too eager for war: “Blessed are the peacemakers, not blessed are the warmakers…”

When people come to me and they’re lobbying for ratcheting up some bellicose policy– even if it’s a bad country– I tell ’em, you know, when I read the New Testament, and when I read about Jesus…he wasn’t really involved in a war of his day. In fact, people rebuked him for not being the king they wanted– they wanted somebody to stand up to the Romans.

Real talk.

I only quibble slightly, with respect to the notion that the merits of foreign policy should be measured against the life of Jesus– but having stopped attending church primarily so I could watch football on Sundays, I will comment no further.
