CNN’s panel format is getting killed by Fox News and MSNBC   July 29, 2017

Cable news channels love “panel discussions” because they’re cheap and they kill time. The difference is, Fox News and MSNBC’s are almost exclusively of the good vs. evil variety:

  • Tucker Carlson style – Virtuous host berates evil guest (usually an unsuspecting student or columnist) to the delight of low-information audiences.
  • Hannity/Hayes/O’Donnell style – Virtuous host and like-minded guests malign evil politician or group to the delight of low-information audiences.

CNN’s panels, on the other hand, feature a wide range of opinions– from Jeffrey Lord to Van Jones to Ted Cruz’s mistress– all of which are treated as valid.

This attempt at civil discourse has proven deeply unpopular with audiences, who continue to flock to the North Korean-style Trump worship of Fox News, and the immensely wealthy, exclusively white, race-baiting primetime anchors of MSNBC.

The last 2 weeks, for example, saw the unfolding Trumpcare drama, Scaramucci-gate, and juicy palace intrigue– yet CNN’s ratings barely budged…
