MFP accurately reviews Doctor Strange

A witty, well-executed, run-of-the-mill, same old, same old superhero origin story. Rachel McAdams does nothing. The villain sucks. The plot is dumb. Marvel's jokes repeatedly rob the film of weight or tension. Yet, it's fucking good, thanks to Benedict Cumbersnatch and the F/X. Could've been great, settles for pleasant.
  • Most original defeat of villain in big budget comic book movie ever.
  • The Cloak of Levitation.
  • Benedict Cumbersnatch.
  • Thor.
  • The villain.
  • Too many jokes.
  • Limited rewatchability.
  • Musical score sucks.
  • Feels totally pointless and meaningless.

Benedict Cumbersnatch

You may recall Cumbersnatch was forced to apologize for calling black people “colored”:

I’m devastated to have caused offense by using this outmoded terminology…I offer my sincere apologies. I make no excuse for my being an idiot.

Another hit

For all the griping about Marvel’s stale formula, hard to argue with these results:

Strange reigns supreme with $86M in its offshore opening…the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer blasted past projections to debut 49% ahead of Ant-Man, 37% ahead of Guardians Of The Galaxy, 23% ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Musical score

But Michael Giacchino’s widely-praised theme sucks…

It’s like Abrams-verse Trek’s adopted foreign little brother…
